Next Month it's 5 years since Ontario banned pit bull type dogs

I can't believe that next month it will be five years since Ontario became the one thing about Canada that I am truly embarassed and disgusted about - the fact that they banned this thing they called "pit bull dogs" - a thing that doesn't even exist, so they can in fact kill or evict from the pro... The Blizzard Cats

If you saw my tweet last week, you had already known we had 2 new members of the family.
I finally found Squirt not one but two cats. And now that I have a chance to snap a few pictures of them, I'd love you all to meet them.

Today's Bark-b-que for Animal Rescue Coalitions!

Me and Buttercup went to the "Bark-b-que" that was put on today for the Animal Rescue Coalitions by a lady named Drakaina Muse - she and her crew raised more than $230 today - so that's a lot of hot dogs I'd say! So kudo's to her for helping the animals of Nova Scotia - and I'd say a good time wa... Read More.

Ursa

This is a hard post for me to write. I have known Ursa pretty much her whole life, and today she died.
She was only 8 years old - a purebred rottweiller - who had the highest and best quality veterinary intervention and care for the entire time that she lived, and she was let go by that same vet...

cat nap

Can you believe this? Sound asleep on my old b/w printer. When it is switched on, the bed is warm and Monsieur Monty somehow always manages to know when that is. He eventually draped himself over the other end! Read More.

Jackie was a symbol for a lot of things

Tracy Jessiman wrote a beautiful letter to the editor today at the Chronicle Herald about Jackie. It made me remember that Jackie was a symbol for a lot of things during his lifetime. He was a symbol of a survivor of abuse, but he was also a symbol of a political system that ultimately came crash... Read More.

My Prince

I haven’t been taking as many photos of Prince lately. Puppies are so much more funny to take photos of. I thought I’d post a shot of Prince to show that he’s not feeling too “put out” by our new addition to the family. In fact he’s looking quite comfortable here. Clover must be sleeping too. Getting On

So the house without Jackie is very quiet, he was always a very active and moving dog who kept the other dogs on their toes and mealtimes exciting for everyone because he was always barking, always hungry, always trying to push everyone out of the way - and now there's a big void, even though the... Jack is gone

At 8:30 this morning I kissed Jackie goodbye. He had refused to eat anything since Wednesday. He hadn't peed in 24 hours even though he was drinking large quantities of water, and as soon as he'd drink the water he'd throw it up. He didn't sleep a wink last night he was in so much discomfort and ... Read More.

Happy Canada Day from Antigonish Country!

Right now me and Buttercup are probably about 1/2 way to Antigonish so that we can go out on a boat and eat our most favourite thing in the world - lobster!
We're also probably going to see this most fabulous dog - Sante,

Beach Babe

Clover went to the beach for the first time today. It was quite exciting in so many ways. She’s a little nervous meeting new dogs but she LOVES meeting new people. She didn’t mind the water but the waves were a bit of a surprise. Read More.

No Kill versus No Kill and Oreo's Law

I don't know if the couple people who read this blog know about this - but there is a horrible crisis in the no kill movement right now - there is a huge fight going on between Nathan Winograd and his supporters and the people who run Best Friends Animal Sanctuary - and basically the whole humane... Newfoundland SPCA wants chaining regulated

There was an article this week in the Newfoundland Beacon about how the president of the Gander and area SPCA said that the proposed new Animal and Health Protection Act for Newfoundland is a "step in the right direction" - but that it leaves a few things out that her organization is lobbying for... Buttercup, good groomers, and Queensland Beach

I took this photo today of Buttercup
This photo was taken of Buttercup in 2003
And this photo was taken of Buttercup back in 2003 - it really struck me today that Buttercup seems to be going through some pocket of renaissance where she has recaptured some bit of her "youth" again

Computers are just the neatest thing

It is so neat what you can turn photos in to these days - I just love a computer program that I downloaded a couple months ago that can turn photos into works of art - I think it's just the neatest thing. Charlie looks so beautiful in this picture now I think - even more beautiful than in real li... Read More.

Diabetes is going to be a journey

So Jackie spent the day today at the Vet clinic - from 8:30am to 6:30pm so they could poke him at regular intervals and test his glucose levels.
My big concern was that if they had to muzzle and unmuzzle him each time they took a reading the day would be a super traumatic event for him - but the...

Clover

Introducing Clover, my new little buddy and new squeaky toy for Prince. She is a 6 week old Labernese. She is about 1/3 Bernese so let’s hope she will be about 1/3 the size too. Otherwise I may have to remortgage my house to feed her. Read More.

Jackie has diabetes

Some sad news - Jackie has not been feeling very well lately. He is now 16 years old, and he has become fussy about eating - which is VERY unlike him, and he has been peeing inside a lot. He has always been a dog who peed inside - which didn't bother me too much because I tend to be pretty lenien... Read More.

Halifax Regional Municipality Kennel Regulation's Misinformation 101

It would seem that the bureaucrats within the Halifax Regional Municipality really do not want dogs to congregate - they don't want dog owners to be able to let their dogs go offleash, they don't want dog owners to be able to take their dogs to in-home doggy day cares - Read More.
