King James Destroys Nets Once Again |
MAY 9, 2007 (POSTED BY: JON CARELESS)
For the second straight game, Lebron James had his way with the New Jersey Nets sketchy defense, scorching them for 25 points in 102 to 92 victory last night.
Lebron scored 25 of his 36 points in the second half, punishing the Net's front line with a variety of three point plays and graceful baseline fallaways.
On the other side of the court, Vince Carter put up a dazzling array of ill-conceived, misfired jumpers. Frowning and wrinkling his forehead more and more with each miss, Vince suddenly decided to take a different approach and dove majestically into the lane, resulting in the all-too familiar image you see above.
Knowing Vince, the injury was probably something of a gravely ...

How Sweet It Is - 16 left standing |
MARCH 22, 2007 (POSTED BY: RAINDOG)
The NCAA Men's Basketball Championship takes centre "court" again tonight as the Sweet 16 action begins. Who will advance to the quarter-finals? Tonight's matchups include Southern Illinois battling a very tough Kansas team, followed by Memphis versus Texas A&M. And later this evening, catch Pittsburgh against UCLA and a very surprising Tennessee team will try to knock off the team many are predicting to go all the way, Ohio State.
On Friday, the early games see Butler taking on Florida and Vanderbilt looking to knock off Georgetown. Then, later tomorrow, it's UNLV hitting the court against Oregon and NC State tips off against Southern Cal.
Make your predictions here... who do you thin...

Random NBA News |
MARCH 21, 2007 (POSTED BY: WIZARDSLEEVE)
Phoenix Suns clinch division with win over Timberwolves:
The Phoenix Suns, along with the Mavs and the Spurs, continue to steamroll onwards towards the playoffs. The T-Wolves however, have no shot at anything, not even a decent lottery pick. I tried conducting a phone interview with Mr. McHale on the whole subject but all he could say was that the trigger on his gun kept jamming.
Kevin Durant is being wooed by Kobe/Nike:
First year college pro and all-around wunderkind Kevin Durant is reportedly being lured into the world of fame and fortune by Nike executives and top selling star Kobe Bryant. Man, this kid is going places I tell you.
I only wish Nike would've been more forthri...

Who's The Fairest Of Them All? |
MARCH 20, 2007 (POSTED BY: MR. WIGGUMS)
Excuse the erm "gay" headline, I was trying to think up of something clever but I just spilled donair sauce over my favorite shirt. So for the last five minutes I've been scrubbing my poor fingers to death, completely forgetting I have a quota to make! (Shudder!)
Anyways, enough with the garish oddball femininity. In this article I'll lay out my feelings on which team I think is going to make it out of the west and win a championship. And don't bring up the Eastern Conference, because we both know no team has even a microcosm of a shot.
1) Dallas Mavericks - With last year's finals defeat still looming large in their heads, this is the team that has all of the right pieces in place. Th...

Suns Win Thriller In Double OT Against Mavs |
MARCH 15, 2007
It seemed like only yesterday, in fact I think it was yesterday, that every NBA analyst for ESPN was putting The Phoneix Suns behind the Dallas Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs as the top favorites to win the title.
Well it appears Phoenix got the memo, and last night they sent everyone at ESPN, along with all their doubters a big F U with a thrilling double overtime victory against the Dallas Mavericks.
This game was undoubtedly the best game played so far this year, with both teams fighting from 15 points back in the second half.
Steve Nash played like he was supposed to, making all the right passes along with taking and making the big shot when the team needed him too.
But ...

John Amaechi Becomes First Gay Player To Attain Endorsement |
MARCH 13, 2007 (POSTED BY: JON CARELESS)
Former NBA player John Amaechi became the first openly gay male athlete to sign an endorsement deal with a mainstream company.
The makers of a popular head-shaving razor, Headblade Inc., announced Monday it had signed Amaechi to a multiyear deal. Financial terms were undisclosed.
According to ESPN, "John Amaechi is the newest face of the brand because he embodies many of the qualities representative of a HeadBlader," HeadBlade chief executive Todd Greene said. "He is a man comfortable in his own skin and he's not afraid to go against the grain."
What a clever marketing ploy. It appears the bigwigs at HeadBlader were sitting in a board meeting one day, trying to figure out the best w...

Pacer Mascot Gets Sued |
MARCH 9, 2007 (POSTED BY: JON CARELESS)
The Indiana Pacers are once again in the midst of a controversy. It was recently announced that Pacer mascot Boomer is being sued for injuring the back of a fan named Nathanial Jackson.
According to http://nba.aolsportsblog.com:
Jackson, who is in his mid-20s, initially declined [participating in a free throw contest], saying he was recovering from back surgery but was assured that "there would be no reason for concern or injury," according to the lawsuit, which was filed March 2 in Marion Superior Court.
After taking part in the free-throw contest, the lawsuit states that Jackson began to leave the basketball court but was tackled from behind by the team's mascot, "Boomer," a 6-foot-...

Lebron Runs Over Motor City |
MARCH 8, 2007
Ahh, the sweet smell of victory. Last night, Lebron James did just about whatever he wanted in a 101-97 overtime victory over the Detroit Pistons.
Tallying a season-high 41 points, James almost won the game himself with a 27 foot jumper at the end of regulation, only to have it waived off by the officials.
Fortunately, 'Bron didn't let the failed game winner rattle his confidence and he immediately went back to scorching the comically decrepid Tayshaun Prince with everything from baseline drives to power finishes.
Sadly, ESPN forgot to cover the highlight of the whole evening when Lebron chased and pummelled NBA critic Bill Simmons to within an inch of his life. Or that might've jus...

Ron Artest Went To The Pokey |
MARCH 7, 2007 (POSTED BY: JON CARELESS)
This has to be the most least surprising story I've heard in six years. Apparently, last Monday morning, Ron Artest was arrested and charged with domestic assault.
In what was once thought to be a case where Ron had simply pushed his wife down several times during an argument, reports now surfacing suggest Ron had actually struck his wife in the face and used physical force to prevent her from leaving their home.
According to ESPN, "Artest was arrested Monday on suspicion of domestic violence and using force or violence to prevent his victim from reporting a crime. He was released from custody after posting a $50,000 bond and is awaiting a March 22 arraignment."
Man oh man, what a ...

Gilbert Beats Warriors With A Little Help From His Friends (Refs) |
MARCH 5, 2007 (POSTED BY: MR. WIGGUMS)
Last afternoon, I witnessed what had to be one of the most egregious cases of bad officiating that I've ever seen for an NBA game. The contest was a suprisingly entertaining affair with the Warriors staying neck and neck with the Wizards for most of the fourth quarter.
The intensity was high on both sides of the ball, with much of that being a credit to the loose officiating that made things extra competitive. This is the way all fourth quarters should be called, it gets players going.
Like I said, the refs were doing a GOOD job up to this point. With 2.9 seconds to play, Washington was trailing by two points and naturally, the ball went into Hibachi's hand with the game on the line.

My Top 5 |
FEBRUARY 26, 2007
In case you were wondering, this post has nothing to do with those craptacular t-mobile commercials with Dwayne Wade and Charles Barkley.
Since the trade deadline passed, the NBA has officialy entered "winning time," and here are the top 5 teams in my opinion:
1) Dallas Mavericks - The deepest team, the best coach, and arguably the game's best big man on a team that collectively has been steamrolling since mid-November. No one except Phoenix has even a microcosm of a shot against these guys.
2) Phoenix Suns - Having realized playing the nice guy role isn't going to win him anything, Nash has been doing everything right this season. He's as fierce as ever, and all that stands in his...

Sin City All Star Game Is Sloppy |
FEBRUARY 21, 2007 (POSTED BY: FOOTBALL BLOG)
Last weekend, the NBA All-Star game festivities invaded Sin City, and suffice to say it all went pretty smoothly. No high-profile arrests to speak of, no dead hookers or mountains of cocaine found in any hotel rooms.
I think there was a couple murders, but as far as I know, no NBA players were involved so that doesn't count. Because, as we all know, the well-being of our pro athletes means much more than any civilian life.
As far as the all star game itself, you could tell the Vegas nightlife had tightened its clutches on both squads (with the exeption of Dwight Howard, but he's one of those hardcore Christian dudes so that's to be expected).
Kobe won the MVP handily, and proved ev...

Kobe Suspended For Hitting Goblin (Manu) |
JANUARY 30, 2007 (POSTED BY: JON CARELESS)
It appears Kobe is once again finding himself on the wrong side of the headlines with news that he's been suspended for one game for "unintentionally" elbowing Manu Ginobili of the San Antonio Spurs in the face during last Sunday's game.
Apparently Kobe feels he's been mistreated by League officials.
"I've been waiting to play here, it's always been a fun place for me to play here, and I'm surprised. Shocked, by it, actually," Bryant said. "I unintentionally caught Manu Ginobili. What do you say, it's a basketball game. You unintentionally catch people with elbows every once in a while."
"Ginobili's face was swollen and red after Bryant cracked him with an elbow on the final play ...

Agent Zero Makes All Star Line-Up |
JANUARY 26, 2007 (POSTED BY: MR. WIGGUMS)
It's official: Gilbert Arenas has finally cracked the starting line-up of the NBA's Eastern Conference Team. The Washington star blew by Vince Carter in the final days of All-Star voting to grab the second Eastern Conference guard spot by 3,010 votes Thursday, the fourth-closest margin for a starting spot.
Yes! This season keeps getting better and better. I hope Arenas wins the game MVP and God, if it is all possible for Vince Carter to somehow sustain some form of career (no wait) life threatening injury during the game I'll promise to devote the rest of my life to Jesus.
