The blue [format header #1] under the headers and under this headline indicate you are in Edit Mode.
If you can't see the blue format links you need to log in.
If you are logged in but still can't see the blue format links click on the gray Edit My Blog link in the far left column.
Click on [format header 1]. A dialogue box will open.
Click on the little green box for the Background Colour. Change the colour and scroll down and click Save.
The color changes. It's that easy.
Don't like that colour? Go back and change it.
You can't break anything.
