OUTLANDER WRAPS
Outlander Wraps
Submitted by Ron Foley Macdonald on 01.21.07 at 10:15pm.
One of the biggest motion picture projects in recent Nova Scotia history has wrapped. Outlander - the Vikings meet Alien flick starring John Hurt and Jim Caviezel - completed some green-screen interior studio work at William F. White studio in early to mid-January. Shooting began in October at a massive set near Nine Mile River half-an-hour outside Halifax and carried on right through the Christmas holidays, with only a brief break. One week was reserved for exterior photography at a fiord near Corner Brook, Newfoundland; most of the shoot was executed in Nova Scotia.
Produced by legendary filmmaker Don Carmody - who helmed Porky’s, the most successful Canadian film of all time - Outlander reportedly had a budget of $40 million Canadian.
The shoot was not without its difficulties. Insiders dubbed it ‘Shoutlander’ for the amount of tension on the set; one wag spoke of the production company attempting to make ‘an $80 million dollar film on a $40 million dollar budget’.
Mind you, James Cameron’s Titantic was also reported to be a demanding shoot in Nova Scotia, and it went on to cinematic glory, not to mention boffo box office.
